Information/recommendations:
There are tens of thousands of species and cultivars
of ornamental flowers and plants in the world. Members
are encouraged to visit http://www.desu.edu/herbarium
and the references noted therein to better appreciate
the magnitude of the cultivar explosion. Nearly every
day additional ornamental cultivars are introduced someplace
in the world.
It is estimated that there are about 150 to 200 researchers
in the world dedicated to study the postharvest care,
handling and physiology of ornamental plants. Indeed,
about 15% of these individuals are Chain of Life Network®
contributors and are listed in the Database section.
Combining the information presented in the two previous
paragraphs strongly suggests that it is impossible for
these researchers to have investigated even a very small
fraction of the floral crop cultivars presently in commerce
let alone the ones that are added at least weekly. Hence,
the information and recommendations presented in the Chain
of Life Network® Internet
site should be viewed considering two main qualifiers.
1) They represent the best possible data interpreted from
the cultivars tested. 2) That Members need to interpret
and implement the recommendations considering their own
situations and goals.
